Librarians – e-books user exit survey launched
19th January, 2009Librarians – have you disseminated the exit user survey to your staff and students?
In early 2008, as part of the JISC national e-books observatory project, CIBER conducted the first e-book user survey. This survey was probably the largest survey ever undertaken with more then 23,000 responses from staff and students at over 120 institutions in the UK.
For a full year, CIBER has been observing how staff and students have been using the course text e-books licenced by JISC Collections as part of the project. By combing the user survey results with the deep log analysis, CIBER has been gathering a picture, for the first time ever, exactly how students and staff interact and utilise course text e-books. This world class research will provide publishers, librarians, staff and students with essential information to inform the future of the e-books market in the UK.
In order to determine if attitudes and behaviours have changed or progressed during the year, CIBER has released the final exit survey. The results of this exit survey will be compared with the first user survey. All participating institutions are invited to disseminate the user survey to their staff and students.
If you did not receive the instructions that accompany the survey, please contact me immediately – c.milloy@jisc.ac.uk. Please note that we would like institutions to make the survey live before the end of January 2009. There is no deadline at the moment as we will keep it open for as long as possible.
The online survey is accessible to students at:

Participating librarians should inform CIBER of how they disseminate the surveys by responding to the email sent by Ian Rowlands on the list.
JISC Collections and CIBER would like to thank librarians in advance for their help in disseminating this survey and we look forward to sharing the results with you!
