MARC records available in one download
18th September, 2007JISC Collections has received further funding from JISC to develop the JISC National E-books Observatory Catalogue Records (NEOCaR). Hosted by EDINA, NEOCaR will provide institutions that have subscribed to e-books made freely available as part of the project with a single download for all the associated MARC records. The records will be in MARC 21 format and will be quality assured.
JISC Collections is extremely pleased to have received this extra funding as not only does it avoid each institution having to go to a variety of places to get hold of the MARC records but it also builds on a previous JISC funded project called TIME. Providing a one-stop-shop for e-books metadata was also identified at the recent ‘Promoting and Embedding E-textbooks’ workshop as a high priority for institutions. JISC Collections hopes that the NEOCaR project will be successful and that it may in the future hold all the MARC records for JISC Collections e-book agreements. It is also hoped (dependent on further funding) that development of the transformational tool from the TIME project will enable e-book metadata to be transfered into a variety of formats to meet the individual needs of each library.
The MARC records for the JISC national e-books observatory project will be available soon. For further information on NEOCaR please visit http://edina.ac.uk/neocar/Â
